Glass TV Stands

Glass TV stands have been gaining popularity because of the look that they provide.  They are sleek, and often have a flowing design that add motion to a room.  These glass cabinets are often made out of tinted glass, and are about 1/4 inches thick.  The thickness of this glass is because Televisions, and components can be heavy, specially when all the different components are added like surround sound receiver, DVD player, cable box, and any other electronic that runs through your Television.

Another strength that is in the glass is that it is made out of tempered glass.  Tempered glass is used in many applications where someone needs glass to be strengthened for whatever reason.  Dining room tables, coffee tables, end tables, and many other furniture that has glass in it is tempered glass.  Other things that are made out of tempered glass is the glass you find in cars, phone booths, doors, and any other glass where people are around it.  This is because of the added strength of tempered glass, as well as when tempered glass breaks it breaks in really little squares.  This limits the injury that would occur when someone comes in contact with it.  When normal glass breaks it breaks in large sharp pieces and injury can be very serious.

The reason tempered glass is different is because the compressive stress of the glass has to be at least 69 MPa.  For reference safety glass has to be at least 100 MPa to be considered as safety glass.  Even though tempered glass is stronger and more beneficial then other glass it is considered to be softer then regular glass.  That is why tempered glass can more easily scratched then normal glass.

There are many benefits to tempered glass including when it breaks it does in small little square shaped pieces.  Another benefit is that tempered glass is tougher when it comes to being used in the home as a table, or something like that.  Another benefit is that tempered glass tables, and TV cabinets are great options when it comes to modern furnishings, and modern decor.

Some of the disadvantages is that the glass has to be cut, hold have to be drilled before the glass is actually toughened.  Another disadvantage is that tempered glass cabinets show ever single streak, smudge, as well as any dust.  Other then those little ones the disadvantages are far outweighed by the positives.
